Playing Mystery box is easy. Just select the type of game to play from the Game menu. If you are playing solitaire all you need to do is select the number of balls to find from the dialog box.
If you are playing two-player then you need to decide how many rounds are to be in the match and how many balls to use in the first round of the match. If you want to play with the same number of balls the entire match, keep the Balls Constant check box on, otherwise you will be asked to choose the number of balls to find between rounds.
To fire a ray into the box, simply click on one of the 32 boxes along the edge of the box. The resulting marker(s) will be displayed; these markers are your clues to finding the hidden balls.
To help yourself visualize the hidden balls location, just drag one of the ball markers out of the box to the right of the game board labeled (# of Balls in Play) into the inner grid of the board. This does not cost any points and is just used to aid the player. You may also place a ball by Double-Clicking on an inner grid square of the game board. Once all balls have been placed you will have to drag the balls to place them.
If you want to remove a ball from the inner grid, hold down the Command key and click on the ball you want to remove or you can double-click on the ball. If you want to remove all the balls from the game board and start over, hold down the Option key and click on a ball or you can select 'Remove All Balls' from the Game menu.
When you are ready to make your guess, make sure you have all the the balls positioned where you want them on the board and either press the Make Guess button or select 'Make Guess' from the Game menu.
Dark circles will appear on the board where the hidden balls actually are. If the sound is turned on you will hear a beep sound for each correct ball placed on the board.
When playing solitaire you will be shown your score and asked asked if you want to play again. If you are playing a match then your score is shown and the next player will prepare to take his turn. If this is the last game of the last round then the game is ended and a Winner is determined.
